Veins

Introduction

Spider (thread)veins, superficial , thin purplish/reddish veins are a predominantly female problem, relating to oestrogens . It starts at an early age and becomes more pronounced during pregnancy. Professions like hairdressing where standing for too long is necessary are also associated with the condition.

What?

The Nd Yag laser emits energy that penetrates beneath the skin and is absorbed by the hemoglobin in the blood vessels. The temperature increase and the clogging of blood vessels is what makes the veins vanish.

Where?

Mainly lower legs, around knees and ankles.

When?

As soon as you notice them! They will only get worse. Avoid this treatment in the summer months.

How?

The laser beam heats up the vein blood cells and causes the vein to collapse. Multiple sessions may be necessary, on average 4-5 sessions are required, approximately every two months, and then one session every 4-6 months, if the problem persists. It is dependent upon the size, site and number of your veins. We will assess the level of treatment you can have in a single session, being mindful to balance the amount of treatment with the sensitivity of your skin.

Aftercare

Cooling gel and sunblock are needed immediately after the treatment. Any bruising disappears eventually, Rarely mild skin discolouration might be visible.

Risks

You may experience redness or swelling at the treatment site, which disappears later on. The treatment should be avoided in cases of venous insufficiency in the legs, in the summer months and in people with dark skin. It is important to change your lifestyle and habits that cause the veins to appear in the first place.
