Excess Sweating - Hyperhidrosis

Introduction

Hyperhidrosis is the excessive secretion of sweat. It occurs in the armpits, palms and soles of your feet. Hyperhidrosis can be idiopathic ie there is no specific reason for it or secondary ,due to circumstances such as hyperthyroidism, metabolic diseases, medication, menopause, etc.

What?

The injectable treatment of hyperhidrosis is based on the blocking of acetylcholine, which is essential for the secretion of sweat through neurotransmission. Treatment is by intradermal injections throughout the desired surface area after the use of local anesthesia.

Where?

Mainly armpits and occasionally palms.

When?

Other conditions should be excluded before injections are performed

How?

After the armpits is anaesthetised with topical anaesthetic multiple injections with a tiny needle deliver the solution to the sweat glands located to the deepest layers of skin.

Aftercare

There is some sensitivity for 24hrs and possible swelling and bruising. The results last for 6-9 months.

Risks

Avoid during pregnancy, breastfeeding, neurological diseases, myasthenia gravis, and known hypersensitivity to neurotoxin.
