Introduction

Moles, freckles, skin tags, benign lentigines, and seborrheic keratoses are benign skin lesions . Moles usually change slowly, becoming raised and/or changing color. Sometimes hairs develop in the mole or or they may not change at all, while others may slowly disappear over time.

What?

Easy to excise with a local anasthetic injection to numb the skin. Sometimes it can be frozen with a spray and it falls off.

Where?

Anywhere in the face or body

When?

If you notice changes in a mole's color, height, size, or shape, you should evaluate it. You also should have moles checked if they bleed, ooze, itch, or become tender or painful.

How?

A mole excision is an outpatient treatment, with local anaesthesia. It is often send fro histological examination.

Aftercare

Sutures dissolve otherwise need to be removed 7 days after mole removal. A small dressing keeps the wound dry. If a cold spray is used it forms a scab that falls off after a few days and application of scar gel or Biooil is recommended for 2-3 weeks.

Risks

Swelling, bruising and a red scar may be present for a few weeks until healing is complete.
